A long liquidation is a leveraged buyer closed out by the exchange as price fell; a short liquidation is a leveraged seller closed out as price rose. Raw dollar totals mean little on their own — a quiet coin's $2M is a big day, a large coin's $20M is Tuesday — which is why the state above compares STG with its own 14-day baseline, not with the market.
